18 Volt Cordless Drill – Read Faq

Laura asks…

How can i Convert an 18 volt cordless drill so i can connect it directly to an AC outlet?

I have a Dewalt DC988 drill and i want to convert it to a corded drill. It is 18V, and i cannot find how many amps it has. how can i convert it, and do you know the max amps on this drill? thanks.

It would be cheaper and more efficient just to buy a corded drill

Thomas asks…

How do you replace a chuck on a Sears 18 volt cordless drill?

Staff Member Said:

I don't think the chuck is replacable by itself, as it is an integral part of the motor shaft. If it is relatively new then Sears should replace it, otherwise, you will have to take it to a repair shop to get the chuck changed, which will probably cost more than a new drill would. If it can be replaced by itself, the chuck is merely pressed onto the tapered end of the shaft, and a chuck puller can be used to remove it, but the force exerted on the body may cause more damage than good. Good luck.

Mary asks…

brand new milwaukee cordless drill 18 volt throws sparks and burn smell straight out of packaging.?

on ebay I bought a Milwaukee 18 volt cordless 4 pack for a decent price. It was in the original packing and you could tell it had never ben used. I charged the battery and squeezed the drills trigger. Orange sparks shot every where out of the back vents and I smelled somthing burning. Could it be fixed? Is it the drill brake hanging up? Should I try to get my money back from the seller? I would rather fix it than return it.

Staff Member Said:

Actually that is common with a new cordless drill, as long as it is working keep using it. The brushes they put in the motor are new so after a little use the sparks will go away as the brushes start to wear in. This is all assuming that the thing is not defective if it is working then it's ok to use and the sparks and smell will go away with a little use.
Hope this helps
