18v Cordless Drill – Read Faq

David asks…

kawasaki and black & decker 18v cordless drill?

I got 2 drills for Christmas, Kawasaki 18v and black & decker cordless drill but don't know which one to keep? please help.

Staff Member Said:

Consumer reports doesn't rate 18v black & decker models very high (25 and 26 out of 32) but unfortunately they don't rate kawasakis at all. So if you put any weight into their ratings, it would be hard for the kawasaki to be any worse overall.

But it depends how you're going to use it. If you're a typical homeowner and only going to have occasional use for it, either one is probably fine. In that case, all things being equal with regards to weight, comfort and ease of use, etc., then choose the one that comes with more batteries because they're more likely to go bad than the drill itself.

If you're going to be using it constantly day to day, return both and get a dewalt or porter cable!

James asks…

Is there anyway to restore a dead battery pack on a 18v Dewalt cordless drill?

My cordless drill is a Dewalt, 18v XRP. it will no longer take a charge. is there a way to revive the pack? or do i need to spend $85.oo for a new battery pack?

Next time don't buy Dewault...they are famous for short life batteries...you can buy and aftermarket battery for your drill that will work better....Dewault wants your batteries to die so you buy new ones...they suck

Lisa asks…

what is the best 18v cordless drill out there?

i try to stay away from the cheap ones.
for the electrician or equipment installer. i was looking at getting the Makita 18V BHP454, but am sometimes confused with the massive selection of 18v drills to choose from.
anyone have experience with the Makita BDF452HW?

I own a ryobi for almost 3 years and its works for me in many ways: first price, 2nd the battery its can be use for other tools such as reciprocating saw( my favorite) and circular saw ( least favorite) and other tools. The battery pack is cheaper than other brand. I also have a milwaukee and because i dint use so often the batteries died to fast and cost to much for replacing. In my job site i use dewalt ( overrated on price) is good but expensive, and a milwaukee and this one we use a lot so the battery is always charging, its expensive but its power-full also great on masonry its my favorite for tap-con screws.
Sorry can help you on makita but we only use makita as corded drill.
