Fox News..............?

Being from England, i don't see much of it, however the bits i have seen from it are shocking...
Its like a flow of unbidden sewage coming through your house via the Television...
The presenters are way over the top, moronic, dramatic, emotional, fundamentalist Creationists that hate free speech and twist everything factual to fit their twisted beliefs.

My QUESTION is.... How did Fox News ever get on TV, who allowed this abomination?
Fox News is a crime against humanity.

What do you think about it?

Staff Member Said:

I think that stations like CNN and the BBC are way too liberal for my taste. It caters to unrealistic ideals and it ignores half of the truth in each story. They are known for giving one side and not the other and for pandering to Muslims. Instead of discussing the facts they dwell on perceived hatred by the Conservatives, and instead of investigating the whole story, most often they have only been interested in how to bring the "racist" element alive in their news even if there's nothing racist to be told. Example: The story in Texas about the employer who asked his employees to use easier names to pronounce for customer service calls... They jumped on it, and instead of looking at it from the perspective of customer ease, they attempted to make the business owner look bad for it calling him a racist, and when they had a guest reporter who was also Latino speak on it, the reporter said that was perfectly reasonable to ask of this employees.

I think in all cases both sides should be represented, not just one, and tell the entire story.

FOX News???

The content of FOX truly does have liberal and conservative points of view. So...how and why do other news journalists question FOX viewers intelligence? Could it be that FOX is more pro-American than other news organizations who seem to be more concerned with global news?

Staff Member Said:

Well lets start off by saying that that first answer you got shows that level of moronic ignorance out there in America today. They don't question the Fox News viewers intelligence because they are Fox News watchers but rather that the viewer doesn't follow in lock step with the point of view that they personally hold. This leads us into next question; it is not that the others are less "pro-American" as it may look, they are pushing an agenda/propaganda that they want you to believe instead. It make them upset when you think for yourself and don't drink the koolaid they are passing out. We live in a global society and there is no way out of that, they just want to be crowned kings & worshiped as important people instead of just doing their job honestly. "Check every fact on every channel for your own good...read, watch, ask questions and never believe that anyone knows everything!" Good luck to you in life my friend!

There probably isn't much in it in terms of the battery's but its always a good idea to check just to see what your getting for your money as most people don't. Either way i would go with the Hitachi.

Hi all, I have a makita mxt 18v cordless drill, ive had it a few year but hasnt had heavy use, about 6 month ago both batterys all of a sudden started playing up at the same time, from flat 1 battery charges in approx 5 mins and the other around about 10, since this happened to both batterys at the same time i thought the charger was at fault but then i thought batterys, i read a guide with instructions on repairing the cells in the batterys, ive fully charged 1 of the batterys then took it apart expecting to find bad cells but they all have between 1.37 and 1.40 volts in them and none seem bad, anyone any ideas?? the batterys do charge extra quick but go flat as fast.

I suspect the batteries are knackered. NiMh batteries have to be fully discharged before recharging or they develop a 'memory' effect where they top up and then only use that top up part next time.
It is a limitation with these batteries.
The latest Li-ion batteries are the same as used in mobile phones and can be recharged at any state of charge without ill effect. I have just bought a DeWalt 18v cordless with one Li-ion battery and the battery performance is staggering.

You could probably hack another 18V battery to run it.

Or just look for a typical AC/DC transformer/ AC adpater that will do 18V, then find the plug that will fit the drill at radio shack (if there is a plug), then strip the wires and hook it up. The only thing to worry about is amperage draw and educated guess says that will only make the drill under perform not break

Hey Magic,

Funny that you should ask that question. Popular Mechanics just reviewed 18 volt Makita, DeWalt and Ryobi drill/drivers. Believe it or not, Ryobi came out on top as the best bang for the buck. While it doesn't have the reputation of it's competitors, I can tell you that mine is five years old, works every day, and can drive deck screws that stall my buddies DeWalt (that REALLY pisses him off). Oh, and the Ryobi costs about a hundred bucks less that the DeWalt also!!!

What type of cordless drill should I purchase?

I am basically going to be drilling through dry-wall and wood. I will also be seating screws. I am probably going to purchase a Black & Decker. I know that it is not the best brand, but it is all I can afford at the moment. Will a 12 volt be good? Someone said that he had trouble dilling through dry-wall with an 18 volt, which is hard for me to believe. Anyway, is a 12 volt good enough to drill through wood & dry-wall and for seating screws without stripping them. Below is a link to a couple of B&D drills that I am considering.

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-BD12PSK-12-Volt-Select/dp/B001FA2354/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1258412329&sr=1-1

How about this task Force 18 volt cordless drill? The price is only $49.99, which concerns me a little, (you get what you pay for.) Is it worth buying? Are any reviews out on Task Force brand drills?

Don't get a black and decker, unless that's all you can absolutely afford. It will work for a while, but will not last very long. Black and Decker is made by DeWalt, but instead of having steel gears inside them, the gears are made of hard plastic. Not very durable. If you can afford it, get a mid-range brand at least, such as Craftsman, Porter Cable, Ryobi.

12 volt cordless drills will drill holes fine in wood and drywall, but will not be very efficient at setting screws. If you try to run a 3" screw in with a 12 volt you'll be disappointed when you can only run two screws in and then have to switch batteries.

Looking at that link, the first 12v drill is NOT worth $150 like it says. (You save $120!)

It may work fine for you if you just plan on running 1 1/4" drywall screws in, but will struggle with longer screws. It will drill fine for your needs.

Drilling holes depends more on the bit you're using than the drill. Turning a dull drill bit in my hand I can easily drill it through even 5/8" drywall, so whoever told you his 18v drill couldn't drill through sheetrock was pulling your leg.

I only use the Dewalt 14.4v range now, 14.4v will do the job no problem. Ive found it to be a perfect balance between power and weight, when your hanging off a ladder a lighter drill is always better. For all my heavy drilling needs (core drilling) i use corded, so 14.4 does me. If its the only drill your gonna use then go for the 18v the extra bit of power is worth the added weight. Make sure you get Ni-MH bats and not Ni-Cd as they are lighter and have no memory loss, or you could go for the lithium ones.

Staff Member Said:

Normally when the rechargeable battery pack won't recharge anymore people just go and buy a whole new battery pack.

If you really want to repair the pack, you could take the battery pack apart then take it to a battery store that specializes in selling just batteries. All the pack consists of is several round (cylindrical) batteries (cells) that are hooked together via wiring. Normally the wiring is welded to the battery ends. If you take the opened up battery pack to the battery store they can replace the battery cells and wire the new ones together like they should be. It may cost less than a new battery pack, but I'm not sure. I replaced the batteries in my rechargeable shaver once when I was tight on money and my shaver gave up the ghost. It cost me $6 to replace the rechargeable batteries compared to $40 for a new rechargeable electric shaver.

While I own many of both brands, I have to agree with scarface regarding battery life. Part of an issue I have is that the cost of a new battery is at least half the cost of the entire drill kit, although that makes sense since the drill is no more than a small boat anchor without a working battery.

One thing to keep in mind however, is that both have similar or same components, manufactured in the same country, and branded in Yellow or Turquoise Blue.

As one other states, Obviously both are decent products, and as another states, it largely depends on your use/intent.

Another thing to consider is SERVICE. I have no clue about Makita, and I'm not talking about guarantee, but service locations, which Dewalt has all over the country.

Finally, and certainly with no offense to anyone, the choice of a brand of tool, isn't much different than ones personal opinions about Vehicle brands, Paint brands, Politics, and/or Religion.

The Haussman (Rona store brand) gearbox disintegrated.
The DeWalt is still working, but the bit slips in the chuck and the gearbox gets really hot so that the grease melts.

2 votes for Bosch; maybe I should have got that instead of DeWalt which was about the same price.
Is the Book 'Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality' Mostly Fiction Or Non-Fiction?

Yes Barack Obama wants to restore the top marginal tax bracket to the 39% it was under Clinton from the current 35%. (It was 70% in the 1960s)
But, "Leftist Politics"?

'Obama has done everything he can to reassure the nation's ruling bipartisan political class that he is fully on board with the American Empire Project, but it doesn't matter: "conservatives" continue to score points with the "patriotism" and military cards, absurdly tarring him as a "far left" opponent of American interests and security. That preposterous allegation is the central theme in the far-right crackpot Jerome Corsi's current best-selling book "The Obama Nation" - a monument to neo-McCarthyist smear tactics in the post 9/11 era.

Corsi was the co-author of the ridiculous but important and widely read 2004 volume "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry." His latest bestselling hatchet-job is loaded with lurid innuendos and guilt-by-association narratives claiming to link the deeply conservative Obama to African radicalism, "black rage," drugs, Reverend Wright (of course), the Communist Party, the Weathermen, Islamic "anti-Americanism" and the plot to open up Israel and the United States to nuclear attack.'

Consider since securing the Democratic nomination, Obama has abandoned his Liberal base and run to the Right by:

* embracing the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated a Washington D.C ban on personal handguns and claimed that the Second Constitutional Amendment pertains to private citizens, not just organized state "militias."

* declaring his belief in the state's right to kill certain criminals, including child rapists.

* becoming the first major party presidential candidate to bypass the public presidential financing system and to reject accompanying spending limits (violating his earlier pledge to work through the public system and accept those limits).

* supporting a refurbished spy bill that grants retroactive immunity to telephone corporations who collaborated with the White House in electronic surveillance of American citizens (violating Obama's earlier pledge to filibuster any surveillance legislation containing such immunity).

* appointing the corporate-friendly Wal-Mart apologist and Hamilton Project [3] economist Jason Furman as his economic policy director - something that stood in curious relation to his criticism ("I won't shop there") of Wal-Mart's low-wage anti-union practices when speaking to labor audiences.

* increasing his declared support of "free trade," contradicting his campaign-trail criticism of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

* "tweaking" his claim that he would meet with Iran's president (he added new and more restrictive conditions).

* embracing (in a speech to the powerful pro-Israel lobby American Israel Public Affairs Committee - AIPAC) Bush-McCain rhetoric on the supposed Iranian nuclear threat and promising to do "anything" to protect the nuclear occupation and apartheid state of Israel from Iran (a nation previously attacked by Israel).

* calling (in his AIPAC speech) for an "undivided" Israel-run Jerusalem despite the fact that no government on the planet (and not even the Bush administration) supports Israeli's right to annex that UN-designated international city.

* making bolder Iraq "withdrawal" statements indicating that an Obama administration would not leave Iraq.

* vocally supporting a major part of the Republican agenda: the granting of public money to private religious organizations to provide social services.

* endorsing the conservative white male Blue Dog Democratic Congressman John Barrow (D-GA) over the progressive black female challenger Regina Thomas in a July 15 primary [4].

* flip-flopping on energy policy by calling for increased domestic and offshore oil drilling after it became clear that McCain was getting traction with voters by calling for such environmentally insensitive drilling.

Corsi’s new book, The Obama Nation, has been quickly discredited from a number of different directions. The New York Times last week reported that several charges in the book were “unsubstantiated, misleading or inaccurate.”

When confronted with specific errors or falsehoods, Corsi’s own responses reveal him to be a shameless propagandist, not a serious researcher.

For example, Corsi wrote that Obama had “yet to answer” whether his youthful use of illegal drugs extended well into adulthood. Obama, however, has clearly said and written that it did not.

When Corsi was asked about his error — and his completely unsupported speculation that Obama might have even used drugs in the Senate — the author simply said he didn’t believe Obama’s statements on the subject.

So Corsi is essentially claiming the right to just make things up whenever he decides Obama can’t be trusted — and he obviously doesn’t trust the senator on much of anything.

http://www.kansascity.com/340/story/751858.html

Below are additional falsehoods from Obama Nation, listed in the order in which they appear in the book:

Corsi knows that the American people have attention spans that are too short for details. He knows that all he has to do is *write* the book and make the claims. He knows that it doesn't matter whether the claims are actually true, because just the act of making the claims gets the American people to *assume* that there is something going on. People reason to themselves "well, if someone wrote a book with all these accusation, and the media talks about it all the time, then there must be something to them. And thus the media is complicit in destroying whatever "democracy" there might be in this country. People wouldn't recognize their facts from a hole in the ground.
