- I need a 18v Cordless Drill, Which one to buy???
I need a new 18volt cordless drill, there are so many out there to buy, please help me choose, which make and model? I need one for around the home with quite a bit of renovating use coming, ladys does your husband / partner have one that you have used, is it too heavy, orkward to use or just perfect, i ask cause my gf will be using it too.
A I've worked in construction for almost 30 years and used every brand out there. I own a Ryobi and a Dewalt at the moment -- I recommend the Dewalt, hands down. Perfect balance of speed, torque and control and the batteries recharge quickly and hold their charge well. Also quiet and very ergonomic, too -- that drill is like an extension of my body when I use it -- the ideal tool whether you are driving deck screws or drilling through a 2 x 4 with a hole saw! The Ryobi is compact and handy for tight spaces but the torque is poor and the clutch tends to slip. Absolutely do NOT waste your money on Craftsman or Black and Decker products of any type, including their so-called "Professional" series. Junk. If my house was on fire and I only had time to grab 3 things on my way out the door, my Dewalt 18v drill/driver would be the first thing I would grab (and I'm a girl!) Come to think of it, if my Dewalt was a guy, I'd marry him! So maybe you'd risk having your gf prefer the drill to you :-) PS The Dewalt was actually a Valentine's gift from my boyfriend (a professional contractor) 9 years ago. Dumped him, but still love the drill!

- Can a cordless drill do as much as a corded drill?
My 18v cordless drill struggles through masonry. I'm wanting to get a new drill and am wondering if this lack of umph has anything to do with my drill being cordless, or if it's too low a voltage for this work. I prefer cordless drills but which would be best for me?
A You know even a corded hammer drill will struggle with concrete ... cordless are fine for most brick, block , and render but as soon as you try to drill concrete they just have not the power ,that's when you need a SDS drill -cordless or corded will fly through concrete I'm a pro user and dont use corded hammer drills any more nearly all my tools are cordless makita with lithium battery's
