FAQ - Questions - Reviews on Ryobi 18v Battery
- I have a ryobi 18V battery that no longer holds a charge...should I?
throw it away or get it rebuilt? these batteries are not that expensive. Ryobi is a good product; less expensive then dewalt and better then craftsman.
A just buy a new drill that comes with the battery. its cheaper than buying the batteries separate.

- RYOBI 18v battery- is there a way to check when going bad?
One day it was holding a charge fine, next the orange light on the charging unit was lit. Is there a test for these type of batteries?
A Yes by checking the voltage and amperage after it was charged. It can be done with a electrical meter to read the output voltage, and by putting a load (like a resistor) to measure the current. Unfortunately you can not just use an ordinary battery tester for aa, aaa, c, d, or 9v batteries because the specific terminals and the 18 volt rating of the battery. Normally when the rechargable batteries go bad they loose voltage, or they are no longer putting out close to the 18 volts it should. As the voltage output goes down the current draw of the ryobi tool must go up from ohm's law. Voltage = current times resistance. The resistance of the tool will remain constant so the only varaibles that can change is the voltage or current.
